PRESS RELEASE: Neighborhood Institute 2020 Postponed due to Concerns Over Spread of COVID-19

Strong City Baltimore is postponing Neighborhood Institute 2020 (NI2020), originally scheduled for March 28th at Baltimore City Community College (BCCC), in accordance with the mandates from state and city leadership about cancelling large-scale events due to public health concerns over the spread of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). The annual skill-building conference for neighborhood leaders will be rescheduled to fall 2020.

“Neighborhood Institute attracts community leaders, activists, and nonprofit professionals from all over the city – which may include those with compromised immune systems or who lack affordable healthcare. Given our commitment to broad accessibility, along with recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, we feel this is the most appropriate course of action,” said CEO Karen D. Stokes.

Strong City is currently working with BCCC to secure a new date for the event this fall. Workshop presenters and panelists will be invited to present on the new date. All tickets already purchased will be honored at the rescheduled NI2020. Refunds minus processing fees will be available for ticket holders who cannot attend. Volunteers are encouraged to still participate. We appreciate the patience of all our partners during these unprecedented times.

Some of our programming focused on the 2020 Census and civic engagement in the elections occurring this spring. We expect to work with individual presenters and panelists to bring Baltimore this timely and important information in other ways, including virtual platforms.

Stay up to date on virtual civic engagement workshops, future changes, and the rescheduled event by checking our website or RSVPing to the event on Facebook here: http://bit.ly/BuldCivicPower
