Building and Strengthening Neighborhoods and People

Strong City VISTA

Each year, Strong City develops and supports nonprofit and community leaders who are passionate about service and community development as they serve as AmeriCorps VISTA members.

Members serve for one year terms as full-time volunteers at a nonprofit organization, community group, or government agency. They work to eradicate poverty by fighting illiteracy, improving health services, strengthening community groups, and much more. Strong City-sponsored VISTAs are passionate, committed, and hard working individuals who can leverage their skills and experiences to eradicate poverty.  Strong City-sponsored AmeriCorps VISTA members receive a solid foundation of skills they can use as a springboard for careers in government, nonprofits, education, and much more.

Strong City has become the single-largest sponsor of AmeriCorps VISTA positions in the state of Maryland. We believe that AmeriCorps VISTAs are integral to positive community development and we work to invest in their futures. We leverage our resources and expertise to build, develop, and support the capacity of Maryland’s change makers.

Strong City VISTA Cohort

For more than three decades, Strong City has secured the resources of VISTA members to build sustainable change and fight poverty in Baltimore’s neighborhoods. In 2009, the Strong City VISTA Cohort expanded to include Montgomery, Prince George’s, and Howard Counties.  We continue to seek out partners across Maryland to offer National Service opportunities and placements.

For more information about the Strong City VISTA Cohort, please contact VISTA Leaders, Tina Foster or Azure Grimes.
