Dr. Anne Townsend of Mariposa has developed a workshop that will help community members learn to interact with children in their local schools. If you are hoping to become more involved in your local school, this is the workshop for you!
Tell us about your background and why you chose to lead this particular workshop?
While doing my graduate work I became acquainted with Dr. Louise Gurney, a world-famous child psychologist. Her approach to working with children was revolutionary in its effectiveness and how readily it can be taught to parents. Our mission at Mariposa is to bring this approach to a broader community.
What do you hope participants will gain from attending your workshop? What actions will they be more prepared to take?
They will have a basic framework for understanding the key factors that drive adult-child relationships – strengthening the adult’s ability to head off power struggles while increasing the adult’s ability to work with children to change behavior and problem-solve.
What do you love most about living in Baltimore?
Living in a beautiful setting, within walking distance of friends and schools.
