Join Us for the First in Our Virtual Community Connection Series

August 28, 2020

Join us for the first in a series of Strong City Neighborhood Conversations! In the coming weeks, we will convene some of the most committed, innovative community leaders in Baltimore and learn how they are addressing our city’s challenges.

The series kicks off Monday, September 14 at noon with “Neighborhood Leaders Respond to the Pandemic,” featuring these panelists who are making great things happen in their communities:

  • Arianna Koudounas (Madison Park), founder of the Eutaw Place Play Days, which promotes art, recreation and community
  • Ashley Esposito (Violetville), founder of Village of Violetville, a wellness-based neighborhood organization in Southwest Baltimore
  • Lucia Islas (Highlandtown), President of Comité Latino de Baltimore, the city’s first Latino community group
  • Sandi McFadden (Mid-Govans), longtime York Road community leader and Strong City’s Community School Coordinator for Govans Elementary School

Our moderator is a leading local voice on health and wellness issues: Dr. Joshua Sharfstein, Vice Dean for Public Health Practice and Community Engagement at the JHU Bloomberg School. Dr. Sharfstein previously served as Baltimore City Health Commissioner, Maryland Health Secretary, and Principal Deputy FDA Commissioner.

From left to right: Arianna Koudounas, Ashley Esposito, Sandi McFadden, Lucia Islas, and Dr. Joshua Sharfstein.

This will be a lively discussion on how residents are creatively responding to the pandemic – including in neighborhoods challenged by dramatic racial, health, and wealth divides. Audience participation is welcome, so mark your calendar now and register here to join us on September 14 at noon on Zoom and Facebook Live.
