Real Money, Real Power: Participatory Budgeting Information Session 1

Baltimore City Council is planning a groundbreaking participatory budgeting (PB) process for a new Council Youth Fund. We want you to learn more about the national success of this revolutionary idea and how together we can use it to ensure those who actually live in and love the city decide what Baltimore will be.

We need Baltimore residents to join the planning committee that will draft a plan for the process, to lift up the voice of Baltimore residents.

If you’re interested in joining the planning committee, fill in our online interest form today: http://bit.ly/2cIsziK !

PB is an innovative, democratic process granting you real power over real money. It is a model for cities around the country. Chicago, San Francisco, and New York have all found great success through participatory budgeting. It is time Baltimore shares this success as we make the democratic process truly our own.

PB guarantees that our voices are heard in local Government. Through directly involving our young residents in the budgeting and city-building process we will foster civic engagement and community inclusion, and help ensure that the city’s plans reflect our own priorities.

Between September and December 2016, youth, city staff, and community organizations will work together to craft a concrete plan for the initiative. The planning work, supported by the Annie E Casey Foundation and the T. Rowe Price Foundation, will be spearheaded jointly by nonprofits Strong City Baltimore and Participatory Budgeting Project.

Want to know more? Interested in getting involved? Do you believe the community deserves to be heard? Strong City Baltimore will host two information sessions. This first session will be held Monday, September 26, from 5:00-6:30PM, at the 29th Street Community Center.

To RSVP for the information session, please register on Eventbrite.
